School Design
The school brief said that school is transparent, has open spaces; lots of light, opening to surrounding community. The idea of the school having lots of light and has open spaces has been met. For example, when the school was designed, it was designed so that there are sky lights on the roof which makes the building have lots of light. The school has lots of windows which makes it more open and also which makes it have lots of light. The school has wide hallways and two classes can be opened to one big one and this meets the idea the school has open spaces. Form follows function principle is applied because the school was designed to be open spaced and having lots of light and the skylights, huge windows, wide hallways and classrooms able to be divided proves that.

The Design Videos
1. For the first video, the underground map is such a great design because the maker Harry Beck of the underground map in England made it so that the central part of London didn't look so crumbled up. If the underground London map was made geographically, it would be very hard to look. In this map, the form follows function and there is no need to change it but just need to expand it. The first London map was designed very nicely because the maker of the map stretched the center so that it was easy for the people to see. It was geographically wrong but it fits the purpose and the function of the map which makes this map so great.
2. Revolution in the technology of materials that allowed the creation of new things in new ways. Instead of iron, they started to use more wood and plastic. The furniture is a Great design because it still didn't change because some of the chairs which are used currently were made in the 1950s after the World War II. Form and function in a perfect blend. It is very comfortable to use.

Pre- course Survey
1. Describe some of the large design technology projects or assignments you have done in the past? (Products made such as posters, movies, web page; the software you used; and the steps in the process like planning, editing evaluation, research)
- Before taking digital design class I did not have a chance to participate in any large design technology projects or assignments. I didn't get a chance to do projects such as making movies, poster or web pages but only had the opportunity to make objects for example ships or other transportations with materials etc.
2. What would you like or what are you hoping to learn about in this course and what prompted you to sign up?
- In digital design class, I would like to learn how to make websites, basic knowledge about designing etc. Overall, I just would like to experience more; since I didn't have a chance to do those thing listed above in the first question in the past, I would like to try some of them in this class so that is why I was interested in attending this class.

Form Follows Function
Form Follows Function
Form follows function is a principle in which the product is designed based only on the function and the purpose. This form follows function principle can have a negative affect in business. The acceptance of a designed product depends on the social expectations so if the principle is followed the product probably wouldn’t be sold. There was another principle other then form follows function called ornament is a crime. Ornaments are not non- functional in every single case but can be functional in some cases which include architecture. These two designs were moral principles to modernists and these principles made traditional design being replaced. The use of functions will decide how the anatomy will be structured.

A memory stick applies to the article because the design fits the function and purpose very well but also is not plain but has some kind of pattern and color to balance out between the function and the ornament. According to the article, as time passed form and function principle were not effective to the customers. The memory stick has a good mixture of ornament and function.
Great Design 1
Part One
Cell phones might confuse people nowadays because people might think the green button will be the button to turn the phone on and also because of the booting time. Because of these problems with machines a book called User Interface Design for Programmers was written. Bestseller products are great designs. Also great designs are easy to understand and use, beautiful and they are making people satisfied. Design gets too complicated as time passes. There is a value added to the uniqueness.
Part Two
When designing any object, you have to think about the conflicts that may happen with the object. It doesn't have to be not beautifully designed. An example will be the rubbish bin. It has to be heavy so it doesn’t fly away, big to contain a lot of trash, and cheap. Every object has to be designed so that it is very cheap. You have to design an object so that everyone understands how to use it easily without wondering. Design has to be done with taking time and has to add value in it.
Part Three
As the designs get better and better, it is designed so that it suits the customer’s needs. So this makes the user be attracted and interested and would be chosen more by people. Successful products make the people only buy that product. You should spend a lot of time in usability because that is one of the factors that make a successful product. However, though you should spend a lot of time in usability, it doesn’t make the product a number 1 product. A number 1 product should be able to attract the users. Those designs are famous and everyone likes the design.
Memory Stick
A memory stick is used to move documents or other files from one computer to another. According to the first article, it said great designs are easy to understand and easy to use. The memory stick that I have here is very simple to use and everyone knows how to use it without the help of anyone else. The second article said that it doesn’t have to be beautifully designed and there should be any other problems with the object. The memory stick is not heavy; it is small but not easily lost because you can attach a longer string to it. The third article said that everyone should like the design and it should be famous. Nearly everyone in our school has a memory stick because it is comfortable to use which makes it famous.
